ABOUT MLQ™
Major League Quadball (MLQ) is a continental quadball league aimed at presenting the sport in an entertaining, highly-consumable form that mirrors other top sports leagues.
Our season runs from June 1 to August 30. MLQ features standardized schedules, high-level officiating, in-depth statistics, and live and recorded footage of all games. The central tenet of the league, setting it apart from others, is that we have placed a limit on participating teams. This ensures the teams are of a high quality and maximizes the amount of coverage that can be given to each team and each game.
Our league is home to 15 teams from the United States and Canada. These teams are divided up geographically into three divisions (North, South, and East). All regular-season games will be completed by the first weekend of August. This leaves the remainder of the month for an inter-division postseason in the form of the MLQ Championship, where 12 teams will compete but only one will walk away with the title of Benepe Cup Champion.
What is quadball™?
Chaos is part of its charm.
the basics
Quadball has a unique set of rules that includes elements from rugby, basketball, and dodgeball. A roster consists of 21 athletes with six to seven players per team on the field at any one time. The four-maximum rule of quadball states that, at most, there can be four players of the same gender on pitch at one time.
Each end of the pitch features three hoops of varying heights on which the chasers and keepers score. Each player must be mounted on a broom when in play. MLQ has at least seven officials per game: a head referee, two assistant referees, tow goal referees, a flag referee, and a flag runner.
The positions
Quadball has four unique positions.
Chasers (white) throw one ball through the opposite team’s hoops to score goals worth 10 points each.
Beaters (black) throw the other three balls at the opposing team to “knock them out” and make them return to their hoops. If a player is “beat” they must drop the ball they are holding.
Keepers (green) guard the hoops from opposing chasers and act as a fourth chaser on offense.
Seekers (yellow) catch the flag runner to earn points.
the balls
A game of quadball involves two types of balls.
One quaffle: a slightly-deflated volleyball thrown through the hoops by chasers and keepers
Three bludgers: slightly-deflated dodgeballs thrown at other players by beaters
